BLESSINGS DOULA
Childbirth is an experience in a woman's life that holds the power to transform her forever. Passing through these powerful gates - in her own way - remembering all the generations of women who walk with her...She is never alone. -Suzanne Arms

Services
As a birth doula I provide a free consultation or interview, a minimum of three prenatal visits in your home where we practice hands on comfort measures for labor, including various labor positions. We discuss your birth wishes in detail and ways to make your vision a reality. I include your partner, your other children and your baby-in-belly in our time together. I am on call for you from 37-42 weeks (and beyond if needed). I provide continual support throughout your birthing time, early breastfeeding support, a postpartum home visit to check on each family member and celebrate your amazing baby and birth ~
Birth Anywhere
I love to hear women’s birth stories, to hear how she knew where she wanted to give birth, how she knew where she’d feel safest and supported. Sometimes she has changed her mind a few times in her pregnancy. Like a mother cat searching out where to have her kittens, a bird building her nest, a mama bear preparing her cave, she will find her birth place. I support women who birth in hospitals, homes, and birth centers.
Birthing Resources
San Diego is rich with helpful birth resources and choices. I am happy to share these with you! I also lend birth books from my personal library, along with birthing videos and internet resources. Some local resources include Lactation Consultants, Birth Photographers, Childbirth Educators, Acupuncturist, Postpartum Doulas, and Postpartum Counselors.
Breath, Water, Food, and Companionship are the essentials of life and therefore essentials in birth. I like to explore each of those in my birth work and in my blog.
Placenta Encapsulation
I am trained in Placenta Encapsulation and will soon begin preparing placentas on a case by case basis. American Pregnancy Association published a recent article stating that “there are a number of proposed benefits and limited risks to ingesting your placenta”. Placental encapsulation is a centuries old practice that’s been gaining popularity in the United States for several decades. I’ve never met a mom who was sorry she ingested her placenta.
The rebozo is a traditional Mexican shawl that is long enough to wrap around a woman's body. Mexican midwives have used the rebozo since the beginning of time, providing abdominal massage and support to mother’s prenatally and in labor. In the rebozo like hammock, the mother is able to more fully relax, improving her birth experience.
Healing
Healing touch, healing essential oils, healing words are able to pave the path to healing past wounds, past traumatic birth, even our earliest birth memories. It is my desire that each baby’s birth be a safe & joyous event, a glorious transition into motherhood, a story that will be told and retold for generations to come. Healing the earth begins at birth.
